“Baseball Banjo Duet Embraces Ballpark Shenanigans and Cleveland legend John Adams”
Catch the “Baseball Banter,” a new song & video filled with color and hilarious dialogue

Cleveland indie folk duo the Baker’s Basement (tBB) present their new song the “Baseball Banter” — available to stream and watch on Friday, April 5th.  The eccentric pair, known for their wondrous handmade video works, greet opening day and springtime with a hilarious and wildly colorful banjo-bop and music video wherein they embrace a certain perspective on the ball park experience.

Written from the vantage of two fanatical spectators who have much to say about their favorite game, the “Baseball Banter” is a goofy and raucous tale of baseball friendship. And given the Cleveland roots of the writing and performance duo, the song was made with a nod to one of the city’s most beloved baseball supporters, the late John Adams, known for banging on a kick drum in the left field stands throughout decades of Cleveland baseball.

Those familiar with the Baker’s Basement know the subject of baseball holds a special place in their song book. In live settings, the duo sometimes assumes their alter ego, which they call the Baseball Boogie Band, as they share classic and original tunes in the spirit of America’s pastime.  The “Baseball Banter” is one of their favorites to perform, given its theatrical presentation and down-to-earth, tongue-twisting poetics.

The Baker’s Basement (tBB) features the eclectic musical stylings of vocalist/drummer Kate Dedinsky and vocalist/guitarist Adam Grindler.  At their rhythmic core pulses an orange striped, homemade, bucket-drum concoction, the funky back beat on which Dedinsky performs standing up with both swagger and sway.  The duo’s intimate sound, rooted in a whimsical flavor of Americana music and topped with playful vocal layers often volleyed to-and-fro across the stage, offers a humorous yet heart-wrenching sonic signature that’s altogether their own.

"Some of their songs are almost spoken word. And they are hilarious! But they also have this intriguing side to them—it’s not just all humor.  I love how they let their songs flow out of them. You can tell these two have incredible chemistry.” — Amanda Rabinowitz, NPR

“I like the music of this duo because it is sincere and direct.  This sound has distant roots and brings with it the American tradition mixed with a modern compositional approach. The production is essential and minimalist and this artistic choice emphasizes, even more, the purity of these songs.”—Edgar Allan Poets

“This dynamic duo is empowered by the unprecedented ability to ensnare audiences in perfectly curated coffeehouses and dingy underground punk clubs alike. Effortlessly blending whimsy with unapologetically authentic human emotions, these Cleveland chameleons can captivate casual skeptics and devoted music connoisseurs with their profoundly resolute yet utterly approachable sound.” — Rachel Gerboc, Bands in the Bus
